Vision
bios started as a series of twelve non-fiction pieces about street life, the public health system and institutional failure in South African cities.
There is still nowhere else to publish this kind of writing in South Africa.
Now that the twelve pieces are nearing completion, bios is expanding.
To start publishing reviews and discussions of music, film and other cultural moments as they happen.
Covering news events from a similar perspective when possible. So often events are reported in stats and soundbites from spokespeople, we seldom hear from those most affected.
Other sections are planned.
Eventually the hope is to publish other writers who approach their work this way, who are also struggling to find a space to be read, and to pay them for their work.
